What does your job involve?
My job is quite varied and involves the overall management of Community Risk, HR & Development and Corporate Communications. Community Risk deals with both business and community fire safety to ensure that the people in our two counties are as safe as possible. HR & Development also play a pivotal role within the organisation in supporting and developing our staff and Corporate Communications deal with all internal and external communication.
When did you start working for the Service?
I started working for the Service as a firefighter based at Kidderminster Fire Station in 1991. Since then, I have been fortunate to work in various roles across the organisation in all three districts. After working my way through the ranks, I took over as Head of Community Risk and Training in 2012, before taking on the role of Head of Community Risk & HRD in 2018.
Why do you like working for HWFRS?
I am proud to be part of an organisation that not only delivers a first class service, but has so many enthusiastic, hardworking members of staff. I also enjoy the sheer variety of my job and, although there are undoubtedly challenges ahead, I'm keen to help shape a positive future for the Service.
What interests do you have outside of work?
Most my leisure time is spent with my two sons, who keep me very busy! Other than that, my hobbies include keeping fit, gardening and caravanning.
