Specialist information: The Incident Response Unit (IRU) is a mass decontamination and firefighter decontamination unit provided by the Government as part of a national strategy to deal with any incidents involving chemical or hazardous materials. It carries a rear-mounted fork lift truck to facilitate loading and unloading of the decontamination units and associated equipment. The Service operates an IRU located at Hereford Fire Station, it carries a crew of two and when deployed is accompanied by a supporting appliance.
