Fire Safety Advice on Hereford Diamond Day

in News

Pete Hope, Community Safety Advisor with HWFRS, said: "With Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh due to attend, Herefordshire Diamond Day promises to be a fantastic event for Hereford."

He confirmed that the Fire Service would be having a stand at the event and encouraged visitors to call by to get advice on a range of safety issues, from home fire safety to road and water safety.

He added: "We will be setting up a specially-built burnt-room set on the stand to highlight the devastating impact that a fire in the home can have, and visitors will have the chance to enter a free fire safety quiz to identify the hazards and potential causes."

The importance of having chimneys swept regularly to help avoid a chimney fire and the need to fit and testing smoke alarms will also be promoted on the stand.

The service will also be looking to recruit extra Community Fire Safety Volunteers from the Herefordshire area.

He explained: "Our Community Safety Volunteers help to support existing staff in a variety of safety initiatives, such as promoting safety awareness at local public events, accompanying crew members to carry out home safety checks and acting as casualties during operational training exercises. It's rewarding work and a fantastic way of getting more involved in your local community, so do stop by at our stand if you'd like to find out more about volunteering with the Fire Service."
