The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia has joined forces with Redditch Advanced Motorcyclist Group, Worcester and Hereford Advanced Motorcyclists, West Mercia Police, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Worcestershire County Council to organise two events across the county.

Anna Higgins, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership said “The Safer Roads Partnership works with local partners and motorcycling groups to try and reduce the number of motorcyclists killed and injured in collisions. Rider skills days are a series of motorcycle safety events aimed at moped, scooter and motorcycle riders. Events aim to help riders improve their skills and be more confident on the roads. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced rider or have just got your first set of wheels, the assessed ride-outs will have something to offer everyone so come along and find out for yourself!”

The first event – the Redditch and Bromsgrove Rider Skills Day – is taking place atSutton Honda in Bromsgrove on Saturday 13th April from 9am-5pm. As well as free assessed ride outs by Redditch Advanced Motorcyclist Group, visitors will have the chance to look at the bikes on offer in Sutton Honda and chat to a police biker and a speed enforcement motorcyclist who will both be attending the event.

The second event – the Worcester Rider Skills Day – takes place on Sunday 14th April, at County Hall in Worcester. The event runs from 10am-4pm and the free assessed ride outs are being offered by Worcester and Hereford Advanced Motorcyclists. Both a police biker and a speed enforcement motorcyclist will again be in attendance to chat to visitors.

Ride-outs will be available on a first-come-first-served basis on the day at each event, but bikers are advised to pre-book to avoid disappointment:

  • To pre-book a ride-out at the Bromsgrove event on Saturday 13th April, contact Brent Prince on 07974 215 401 or email a4bjp@yahoo.co.uk
  • To pre-book a ride-out at the Worcester event on Sunday 14th April, contact Paul Whitcombe on 07854 168 900 or email wham.worcester@gmail.com

Visitors at both events will also have the opportunity to sign up for the IAM Skills for Life programme and take advantage of a substantial cost saving on the price of a course.

Brian Morgan, Chairman of Worcester and Hereford Advanced Motorcyclists said “We are delighted to once again be working with the Safer Roads Partnership on this important road safety initiative. Any riders who sign up for a discounted Skills for Life programme with us on the day will be allocated a local observer who will guide them through the course at a mutually convenient time. The course content is designed to help those riders who wish to improve their skill level, up to IAM test standard, and can only help improve the safety of those involved. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain!”

Please note, free assessed ride-outs are available for full licence holders only.

The Safer Roads Partnership is part of West Mercia Police and works in partnership with nine partner agencies to reduce casualties and make the roads safer for all users in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin through targeted communication, education and training together with enforcement.
