Fire safety advice at retirement roadshow

in News

The 55+ & Retirement Roadshow will take place at All Saints Church in Eign Gate, Hereford, on Saturday 23 March from 9.30am – 3.30pm, and is aimed primarily at those in retirement or approaching retirement, as well as those who care for others or are in receipt of care themselves.

Entry to the show is free and those attending will be able to get information on a range of issues from health, fitness, and mobility, to advice on housing, pensions and tax, and even legal matters.

For its part, HWFRS will be offering advice on fire safety in the home, encouraging those attending the show to book a Home Fire Safety Check where a representative from the Fire Service will visit to give advice specific to the particular household, and fit smoke alarms where needed.

Pete Hope, Community Safety Advisor with HWFRS, said: “The retirement roadshow gives us an opportunity to target a group of people who may be more at risk because they are getting older or have mobility issues. As well as offering free Home Fire Safety Checks, we will also be promoting the importance of having smoke alarms fitted in the home and testing them regularly. An early alert from a working smoke alarm can give a few precious seconds to escape a fire in the home, and this extra time can prove even more important for those who are less mobile.”
