Chemical Spillage
At 06:08Hrs on Tuesday 11th May 2010, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Service was called to reports of a chemical spillage in Drybrook Road, Weston-under-Penyard, Herefordshire. Crews from Ross-on-Wye, and Hereford fire stations attended along with specialist Incident Response crews from Hereford and the Environmental Protection Unit from Evesham.
On arrival crews had to contain approximately 1200L of chemicals (3 types) used in agriculture. Agricultural chemicals have the potential to pollute the environment, create toxic fumes and in some cases, cause explosion. Firefighters dealt with the chemicals which had leaked onto the road from a farm sprayer and prevented the mixture of chemicals from entering a nearby watercourse approximately 150meters away from the road.
No-one was injured and the incident was left with the Environment Agency.
