Urgent tumble dryer recall warning
Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is warning tumble-dryer owners to check if their appliance is part of an urgent recall of Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline products.
A fault has been identified where fluff comes into contact with the heating element which can cause the machine to set alight.
The recall affects hundreds of thousands of appliances – most of which have yet to be checked. Since the start of the recall, only 65,000 affected dryers have been located, checked and either replaced or refunded.
Area Commander Mark Preece of HWFRS warns: “If you have a tumble-dryer of any of these brands, which does not display a green sticker on the inside of the dryer door or reverse of the machine, unplug it immediately and do not use it until has been checked, replaced or modified by the manufacturer, as it is currently a fire-risk.
“Visit the Whirlpool website to check if your appliance is one of more than 600 models of vented and condenser tumble dryers of the five brands at risk. If it is listed, do not use the tumble dryer.”
Anyone who thinks they bought a potentially dangerous dryer should call 0800 151 0905 or visit www.safety.hotpoint.eu/dryercheck
