Response to Fire Service Report

in News

The statement comes in response to Sir Ken Knight’s report Facing the Future, which was published today and looks at ways of cutting expenditure in fire and rescue services across the country.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Richard Lawrence said that HWFRS is confident that many of the proposals and recommendations within the report are already being progressed or have already been implemented.

“We work collaboratively with our colleagues in other services – such as the provision of our new fire control, said DCFO Lawrence. “Next year a new combined police and fire station will open in Bromsgrove, representing an example of local innovation and collaboration.

“The report also highlights the need to consider a flexible approach to staffing, something that HWFRS has embraced through the introduction of different shift patterns as well as the provision of a significant proportion of firefighters working the retained (on-call) duty system.”

A recent external report noted that we are already making efficiency savings yet continue to deliver a good service to our communities. Our priority is to deliver a high quality fire and rescue service to people who live in Herefordshire and Worcestershire whilst providing value for money.

DCFO Lawrence confirmed that all areas of the report would be closely looked at in detail over the coming weeks to ensure all possible considerations are fully examined.
