Water pumped from narrow boat

The call was received at around 8.50am and a fire engine from Stourport attended.

Crews found that a 30-foot barge moored on the canal side was in an unstable condition with water in its bilges, believed to be from a split water tank on the boat.

To prevent the narrow boat sinking and avoid the environmental impact of oil and fuel entering the water course, the crew used a mini-ejector to pump the water from the boat.

Emergency marine engineers were also alerted and fire crews left the scene at around 10.30am, having averted the immediate danger of the boat sinking.
