Fire Service Rescue Following Trailer Collision

Two people were rescued from their home in Bosbury in Herefordshire at the weekend following a collision involving their house and a trailer from a tractor.

The initial report about the incident was received shortly before 10.30am on Saturday morning (17 October) and firefighters from Ledbury were at the Bromyard Road address within minutes. They were joined by a second crew from Ledbury, the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Hereford and the Incident Support Unit from Droitwich, while the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team also attended.

An elderly couple, who were in the house at the time of the incident, were rescued by fire officers and ambulance staff, and taken to hospital with minor injuries. The tractor driver was also taken to hospital, and all three are believed to have been discharged later the same day.

Firefighters also used the aerial ladder platform to help extinguish a fire that had broken out inside the house, which involved a wood burning stove being used at the time of the collision.

Incident Commander Neil Lilwall from H&WFRS said: "We understand that the couple were sat at home in their living room on Saturday morning when the trailer unit came away from the tractor and burst into their house. Thankfully there were no serious injuries although those involved were understandably pretty shaken."

Police and the Highways Agency also attended the incident, and the road outside the house was closed throughout the day while USAR and local authority building surveyors helped to make the building safe.

The stop message was sent through shortly before 7.30pm on Saturday evening.
