Crews assist with motorway collision

The call was received just after 8.10pm and fire crews from Bromsgrove (x2) and Droitwich attended the incident, which had occurred westbound on the M42 between junctions 1 and 2.

While two casualties were treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital by land ambulance, fire crews used stabilising equipment to secure the smaller of the two lorries which had come to rest at an angle on the motorway embankment. This lorry was loaded with drums of vegetable oil which had started to leak onto the carriageway, and firefighters worked to stem the flow of oil and decant the drums safely from the lorry.

Crews left the scene at 9.30pm having made safe both the lorries involved, while the Highways Agency attended for the carriageway clean-up.
