Crews called to six chimney fires in one weekend

This included two chimney fires on Friday evening (16 December), the first in Low Road in Church Lench near Evesham, and then a second incident involving a woodburner in West Malvern Road in Malvern.

On Saturday afternoon (17 December), crews were called to woodburner fires at properties in Bearwood, near Pembridge in Herefordshire, and in Worcester Road in Broadheath, near Tenbury Wells.

Firefighters also attended to two further chimney fires on Sunday (18 December), one involving a woodburner at a house in Astley, near Stourport, and the second involving an open fire at a house in Aymestrey, near Kingsland.

Fortunately none of the incidents caused major damage or injury, but H&WFRS is keen to highlight just how serious chimney fires can be.

Most chimney fires can be avoided by having chimneys swept regularly, so if you have a woodburner or real fire, book an appointment to have your chimney swept now if you have not done so already this winter.
