Worcester flat fire

in News

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) was called to a flat fire in Portland Street, Worcester at 03:38 this morning.

Fire appliances arrived at the scene within four minutes of the call and were faced with a fire in a first floor flat. Police who were already in attendance rescued the only occupant and evacuated the other residents, allowing the fire service to quickly extinguish the fire using crews in breathing apparatus.

A female was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by both fire service and ambulance crews, and thankfully there were no other injuries. This was testament to a quick response and effective collaborative working from police, fire and ambulance crews who attended.

The flat had working smoke alarms which quickly raised the alarm. Whilst the fire caused a significant amount of damage, it was confined to the flat of origin and other residents have now been allowed to return to their flats.

Fire crews have returned to the scene this morning to continue their investigation into the cause of the fire and engage with local residents.
