Fire Service celebrates its successes

Station Commander Neil Pigott acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, while Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates presented each staff member with a framed certificate to recognise their individual achievement. The Chairman of the Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor Derek Prodger MBE, also attended the event and assisted the Chief Fire Officer in presenting the awards.

The first award of the evening was presented to Emma Birch, Acting Head of Human Resources (Service Headquarters, Worcester) for achieving a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management.

This was followed by presentations to Watch Commander Simon Cusack (Kidderminster) for completing a Diploma in Immediate Medical Care with the Royal College of Surgeons, to Natalie Beeby, Assessment & Development Co-ordinator (Training Centre, Droitwich) who achieved a CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management and to Sarah Hemming, Human Resources Officer (Service Headquarters, Worcester) who achieved a CIPD Level 7 Diploma in Management Studies (see below for more details of these diplomas).

Sixteen firefighters were also presented with certificates for successfully completing their Trainee Firefighter Programme (see below for more details of this programme).

This included eight from Herefordshire (Firefighters Adam Lockley-Holder (Fownhope), Arran Semple (Hereford), Iain Morris (Kingsland), Leanne Player (Kington), Mark Cooper (Fownhope), Philippa Jones (Bromyard), Richard Juniper (Ledbury) and Samuel Griffiths (Leominster)), and eight from Worcestershire (Firefighters James Topping (Broadway), Jeremy Kisiel (Upton-on Severn), Joshua Plumb (Redditch), Lee Whittington (Redditch), Nathan Haste (Droitwich), Samarjit Butalia (Bromsgrove), Stephanie Vincent (Worcester) and Tariq Khan (Worcester)).

CFO Yates also presented certificates to ten Firefighters who have completed their Firefighter Development Programme - NVQ Level 3 (see below for more details of this programme).

This included Firefighters Ben Scott (Hereford), Craig Cummings (Ledbury), Gary King (Redditch), Robert Cox (Worcester), Shaun Harris (Bromyard), Thomas Hughes (Upton-on-Severn), Wayne Hoskins (Bromyard), Joel Skyers (Ledbury), Jamie Holloway (Redditch) and Simon Papworth (Hereford).

Four firefighters, a crew commander and a station commander were also presented certificates for successfully completing their Development Programmes (see below for more details of these programmes). This included Firefighters Christopher Tarr (Kidderminster), John Wilkins (Bewdley), Mark Swansborough (Kidderminster) and Neal Jones (Bromsgrove) plus Crew Commander Robert Birchley (Redditch) and Station Commander Bob Sproat (Service Headquarters, Worcester).

Two Crew Commanders were also presented certificates for completing their A1 Assessors Award (see below for more details of this programme).

This included Crew Commanders Andrew Phillips (Hereford) and Simon Powney (Kingsland).

One final award was presented before the evening came to a close. This was presented to Kathryn Berry, Recruitment Officer (Service Headquarters, Worcester) for completing a CIPD Certificate in Human Resources Management (see below for more details of this programme).

Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates said: “This Celebration of Success event gives us chance to formally congratulate members of staff on a range of personal and professional achievements.

“Everyone who was presented with a certificate has dedicated a great deal of time and effort to their learning and self-development, often alongside their main role with the Service. They deserve to be recognised for their commitment and hard work, and I sincerely hope that they enjoyed coming together in this way with their colleagues and their families to celebrate their achievements.”

CFO Yates also thanked Cllr Derek W Prodger MBE, Chairman of Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority for attending the Celebration of Success event, and members of the Young Firefighters Association for helping out during the evening.
