Dishwasher Fire Ruins Kitchen

Two crews from Hereford Fire Station were promptly in attendance and after preventing further spread of fire, ventilated the property and completed investigations.

Station Commander Phil Major said: "Working smoke alarms provide early warning of fire, allowing householders to safely escape and call the Fire Service. In this case the fire had started in the control unit of a domestic dishwasher then spread causing smoke logging and around 20% of damage to the kitchen. Crews worked very hard in the initial stages and their actions were instrumental in preventing the fire developing further and spreading throughout the property.

"It is always best to keep an eye on appliances such as washing machines, dryers and dishwashers whilst they are operating and to isolate appliances when you are away from your premises."
