Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue (HWFRS) will be hosting the final task of the Local Government Challenge, which is now in its sixth year. This fierce competition involves 10 aspiring future local government chief executives confronted by tough real-life challenges that tackle issues faced by local government.

Run by the Local Government Association (LGA), the LG Challenge seeks to identify local government's top talent, promote best practice and highlight the breadth and variety of the challenges for top executives in local government.

The contestants have already faced four challenges with other organisations that have involved creating strategies, preparing business cases, marketing plans and developing campaigns, which they have then put forward to high profile judging panels. The contestants will face their 5th and final challenge with HWFRS on 3rd and 4th June 2015. Few details are being released in advance so that contestants can be thrown into the deep end upon their arrival.

The finalists will then attend the LGA's Annual Conference, where they will pitch a project plan that they have developed to benefit local communities. The overall winner will scoop up the prize of the £10,000 Bruce-Lockhart Scholarship, which will assist with implementation of their project.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates, who is on the judging panel, said: "We are delighted to be the only fire service selected to facilitate one of the LG Challenges this year and we're extremely excited to see what ideas these talented individuals will come up with. We'll be judging the contestants on their business acumen, creativity, problem solving and their ability to be forward thinking and inspire others."

Just like a television talent show, cameras will follow the contestants and there will be live-tweeting as the challenge take place. Films of every challenge will be available on the LGA website.
