Fire in Worcester apartment building

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire in a residential apartment building on Princes Drive, Worcester at approximately 8.15pm on Thursday evening (26 January).

Three fire engines from Worcester Fire Station arrived swiftly at the scene and on arrival the crews were faced with a fire within the communal stairwell of a two-storey building. The staircase itself was heavily smoke-logged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were quickly deployed and extinguished the fire using a hose reel.

Station Commander Adrian Farmer said: "The residents were requested to remain in their apartments with the doors closed. One female resident was given a precautionary check by West Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"The building was quickly handed back to the housing association and we would like to thank the residents for their co-operation".

The cause of the fire is being currently investigated by fire investigation officers, assisted by West Mercia Police.
