BBC H&W breakfast presenters visit Worcester Fire Station

in News

BBC H&W breakfast presenters, Elliott and Toni, became firefighters for the day when they recently visited Worcester Fire Station.

The visit was hosted by Worcester RDS who took the time to come in especially for the event. Crew Commander Steph Vincent and Firefighter Dan Hollings gave fantastic interviews and shared their experiences as on-call firefighters in a bid to promote recruitment.

After giving the presenters an insight into what their roles entail, the crew put the presenters through their paces in a range of training exercises.

The training commenced with a ladder climb up the state-of-the-art training rig, which is part of the selection tests for new recruits. After conquering heights, the duo were then equipped with breathing apparatus and used guidelines to navigate their way through a building and confined tunnels. To make the scenario even more realistic to a house filled with smoke, their vision was impaired with a mask.

The visit concluded with some road traffic collision training where they were tasked with rescuing a casualty from a car.

All of the activities undertaken gave the presenters an understanding of what training our firefighters do to keep the communities of Herefordshire and Worcestershire safe.

Thank you to the RDS crew from Worcester and everyone else that was involved in the visit.
