Keep your vehicle well maintained this spring
We’ve seen many different weather conditions across the region over the winter months including rain, snow, sleet and freezing temperatures which have all put vehicles through their paces and the Safer Roads Partnership is encouraging motorists to make a few simple checks to ensure their vehicle is still is good working order.
Anna Higgins, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership said “Although the evenings are starting to get lighter, it’s important to check that all your lights and indicators are working. In addition, registration number plates MUST be kept clean and clear. We’ve seen a number of vehicles recently where winter conditions have led to number plates being obstructed or partially obstructed by dirt or snow. This is an offence which could result in a £60 fine.”
Motorists are also encouraged to check their tyre pressures and tread depth on a regular basis, ensure brakes are in good working order, top up oil and water levels if required and ensure wiper blades are in good condition and any old blades are replaced. It is also a good time to check that your vehicle service is up to date.
Anna Higgins added “With the Easter holidays almost upon us, many of us will be making long journeys so it’s an ideal time to carry out a few basic checks on your vehicle to ensure it is in good working order from the winter and you have an enjoyable journey.”
