House fire, Wythall

Fire crews from Redditch, Bromsgrove and Kings Norton (West Midlands Fire Service) attended the property in Littleshaw Croft following the alert from the two builders just after 3pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 28 March).

On arrival, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the property and extinguished a fire in the bedroom using one hose reel jet. A bed was damaged in the fire and there was also smoke damage in the bedroom and throughout the rest of the bungalow.

Station Commander Phil Griffiths from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service praised the builders for their actions, saying: "Thankfully the pair noticed smoke at the windows and could hear a smoke alarm activating, and so promptly called the Fire Service. Firefighters were then able to bring the fire under control without it spreading any further."

He urged anyone noticing a fire to do the same – call 999 and wait for the Fire Service to arrive rather than risking their own safety by going into investigate.

The cause of the bungalow fire is under investigation.
