Flat fire, Kidderminster

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) was alerted to the fire in the first floor flat in Hurcott Road at around 10.05am and two fire crews from Kidderminster fire station attended.

The fire, involving an artificial Christmas tree in the lounge, was extinguished just before 11am with two firefighters in breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet used. Crews also used positive pressure ventilation equipment to clear the smoke from the property.

Station Commander Kevin Williams from HWFRS said: “Thankfully no one was hurt during the incident but the Christmas tree and a sofa in the lounge were damaged in the fire and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the rest of the property.”

He said it was likely that the fire had been caused by an electrical fault with the Christmas tree lights.
