Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week that runs from 14th to 20th May. This year's focus is stress – we all know what it is like to feel stressed and feel under pressure. But becoming overwhelmed by stress can lead to mental health problems or make existing problems much worse.

It may be the last month of spring, but there's still time to squeeze in a final spring clean. A part of the national fire safety campaign, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to clear the clutter that may be blocking escape routes and to make sure their family, guests and loved ones know how to get out, stay out, and call 999 in the event of a fire.

The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is launching a new mobile speed enforcement site on Alcester Road, Wythall in direct response to concerns raised by local residents and Wythall Parish Council about the speed of vehicles travelling along the 30mph road.

The Chairman of Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority, Cllr Roger Phillips, has expressed his disappointment at the Home Secretary's decision to allow the West Mercia Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC), John Campion, to take over the governance of the Fire Service – but has also signalled the Authority's willingness to proactively work with the PCC to ensure a smooth transition period whilst, at the same time, maintaining the high standards of service delivery currently provided by the Service and its staff.
