Safe Driving and Drink Driving Awareness Demo
Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will be holding a Safe Driving and Drink Driving Awareness Demo at Evesham Town Market Square on Thurs 18th December between 7pm and 9pm. The event is aimed at 17-24 yr olds and hopes to promote safer driving over the festive period.

Two Cars and Garage Gutted by Fire Caused by Discarded Cigarette
 A discarded cigarette end is thought to be the likely cause of a fire that severely damaged two cars and a garage at a detached house in St James Road, Malvern on Wednesday, December 17. Two crews from Malvern and one from Worcester used six BA and two jets to extinguish the blaze.

Floods Trap 4x4 Driver and Passenger
Boat crews from Evesham and Worcester rescued an elderly couple who became marooned in three feet of flood water in their 4x4 car at Eckington, near Pershore, on Monday, December 15. Crews, wearing dry suits, pushed the vehicle to safety. The day before crews rescued an elderly woman who became trapped in her car at the same location.

Four Pump Attendance at Kidderminster Church Fire
Crews from Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley together with the aerial ladder platform from Worcester attended a fire that badly damaged Trinity Church, Churchfields, and Kidderminster at midnight on Sunday, December 14. The "stop" was successfully achieved after 60 minutes. Police later arrested a man and charged him with arson.

13th December 2008

Bride-to-be Thrown from Carriage After Horse Bolts On Way To Church
Crews from Evesham and Broadway were called to Bidford Road, Blackminster on Saturday, December 13 after the horse drawn carriage taking the bride-to-be and her father to Badsey Church was in collision with a car. The horse had "bolted" and the passengers together with the carriage driver and his assistant were thrown off in the collision. The bride was taken to hospital by land ambulance and the wedding was postponed.

Fifteen People Rescued From 20 Separate Road Traffic Collisions
Fire Service personnel have rescued 15 people from 20 road traffic collisions that have occurred on roads across the two counties during the six day period November 28 to December 3. There were no fatalities.

Live Unexploded Shell Found in Office
Two crews from Worcester stood by as an Army bomb disposal team removed a live shell from the premises of Goodman Bayliss, London Road, Worcester on Thursday, December 4.The shell was later detonated in a controlled explosion by the Army team at Powick Hams. The shell was believed to have been used as a paperweight on an office desk.

Christmas Presence
A seasonal safety campaign called ‘Christmas Presence’ will run from 16-20 December 2008 to promote Christmas Fire Safety around Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The aim of this Community Safety initiative will be to:-

  1. Achieve a week of fire safety publicity prior to Christmas.
  2. Maximise the number of people we reach in a short period of time
  3. Promote the 12 key fire safety messages of Christmas

A mobile billboard has been hired to drive through both Counties with stop-off locations that will enable community staff and fire fighters to talk to the public. An example of the billboard is shown below. Details of the campaign and planned routes will be promoted on the Service Website and targeted media throughout December 2008.
