Big crowds at the ever popular Worcester Community Safety Day
Worcester Community Safety Day took place on Saturday 25 July at Worcester Racecourse. The weather on the day proved to be excellent and this drew the crowds in.
The idea of the day was to hold a fun day for the all the family and to get together with partnership agencies in fire, water and road safety. Serious safety messages were delivered to the public but in a fun way.
A lot of other agencies were involved on the day including West Mercia Police, NHS Blood Donors, Air Ambulance and Severn Area Rescue Association.
Many activities took place including the Swift Water Rescue Team doing some rescue demonstrations on the River Severn with a team from the Canoe club. Demonstrations also took place in the main arena by Worcester Firefighters – they attracted the crowds by doing car cuts, chip pan fire demonstrations and gas fire demonstrations – this got the safety messages across and alerted the public to the dangers involved.
There was plenty for the kids to do as well, including riot van rides with the Police, ice cream vans, face painting and The Young Firefighters Association did hose target practice.
Competitions were taking place throughout the day including a spot the hazard and the four winners of the Design a Poster competition and their families were invited along to the day to see their pictures on display. Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mike Redfern had the task of choosing a winner and he chose Kara Blair from St Barnabas Primary School. Kara was delighted and her poster will be displayed around Worcester Schools.
Overall, the day was a huge success and was enjoyed by all. There was a large amount of work that was done to plan this event and a big thank you must go to all of those who were involved in this. The crews from Worcester Fire Station would like to say 'thank you' to everyone who came along to help make this years event a great success. We hope see you next year.
In the meantime don’t forget to test your smoke alarms every week - even if they are mains operated! |
