With around 900 staff based across our two counties there are many interesting career opportunities at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
The Service employs Firefighters on two shift patterns. Firefighters (Wholetime) work a shift system and are based at Fire Stations. Firefighters (Retained Duty System) respond to emergency calls from their home or place of work - as long as they can get to their Fire Station within 4 or 5 minutes* of being alerted to a 999 call. * The needs of the Service and individual circumstances are taken into account.
There are also a number of Fire Control Operators who are based in our Control Room in Worcester. They handle the 999 calls and send fire engines to deal with an incident. They also liaise with Fire Officers, other agencies and other Emergency Services.
There are also a number of specialist (non-uniformed) support roles within the Service.
