CFO's Welcome

Welcome to Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s new look website.

Each year the role of our Service continues to grow and we continue to develop ourselves to meet new challenges. The role of today’s modern Fire Service is varied, the expectations and our number one aim is to make Herefordshire and Worcestershire safer from fire and other hazards and to improve community well-being.

In 2007 we saw some extraordinary weather conditions in our two Counties, with floods that had a huge national impact, with particular effect in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Over a two day period last year in July, during the height of the floods, our Firefighters rescued around 1200 people from their homes and from flood water.

We feel it is vital that we continue to prepare for such extreme weather conditions and as a result we are involved in more water rescue training than ever before, as well as well as ensuring we retain our operational resilience to support fire, road and home safety.

Our latest Integrated Risk Management Plan sets out our proposals and priorities for the future to ensure we are better able to deal with any new challenges and that we continue to provide a Fire and Rescue Service that is second to none.

We will also continue to work on our education programmes as our philosophy is that prevention is better than cure. We will always need our fire engines to respond to emergency incidents but we will endeavour to do as much as we can to prevent them happening in the first place.

Please have a look around our website where you will find useful community safety advice and further information about our Service.

We always welcome feedback and are keen to engage as many sectors of the community and there are many ways to contact us, so please feel welcome to do so.
