  1. Fit one smoke alarm for each floor of your home and check it is working weekly (Test it Tuesday)

  2. Make a fire action plan so that everyone in your household knows how to escape in the event of a fire

  3. Take care when cooking with hot oil; use a thermostatically controlled hot fat fryer

  4. Never leave lit candles unattended

  5. Ensure cigarettes are stubbed out and disposed of carefully
