Roof fire near Malvern

Two fire crews from Malvern and one from Upton attended, arriving to find a well-developed fire in the roof space of the Grade II listed property, and the occupants safely evacuated.

While the fire was brought under control within minutes with four firefighters in breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a covering jet used, crews remained at the scene until around 12.35pm, damping down and cutting away parts of the roof to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished.

Station Commander Gary Jay from HWFRS said: “Thanks to the hard work of the crews, the fire was brought under control very quickly, with minimal damage to the property.”

He confirmed that crews would be carrying out a re-inspection later this afternoon and that a smoke alarm has been fitted in the property.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the roof.
