Fire at School

Four fire crews (from Worcester (x2), Droitwich and Malvern) and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Worcester attended, and six firefighters in breathing apparatus were involved in extinguishing the fire, with two hose reels and one safety jet used.

Staff at the school had carried out a role call and full evacuation, and no one was injured during the incident.

Station Commander Toby Kempton from HWFRS said: “Crews arrived to find the school hall completely smoke-logged, and a large amount of smoke escaping from the roof outside.

“The fire had broken out in a large lighting unit in the hall and had spread through the insulation into the roof space. It proved a challenging fire to tackle because of the height involved, and the crews constructed a scaffolding tower inside the hall to gain the access they needed to the roof space.”

He praised the crews for their hard work bringing the fire under control and staff at the school for their prompt evacuation.
