Serious collision in Hagley

The incident is believed to have involved a number of separate collisions along the A491 in Hagley, just near the Four Winds pub.

The Service was alerted to the incident at midnight by police already at the scene, and fire crews from Kidderminster and Bromsgrove attended. They worked alongside paramedics to release a man from his car, after it left the road and overturned. The casualty was lifted from the car and treated at the roadside before being taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Station Commander Dan Quinn from HWFRS said: “We understand that the collision involved some horses, believed to have escaped from a nearby field. As we arrived, the car was on its side in a field with the driver inside it, and we had to use specialist stabilising equipment to secure the vehicle in order to reach the casualty inside.”

He confirmed that there had been at least one other incident along the same stretch of road just before midnight last night, and that three horses had died.

Police are investigating.
