Cold weather warning for motorists

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is warning motorists in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire to take extra care as the weather turns colder this winter, particularly on wet roads from the recent heavy rain and flooding.

High numbers of electric blankets found to be unsafe

Electric blanket testing sessions held across south Worcestershire in recent weeks have revealed that many of the blankets being used on people’s beds were unsafe.

Weekend Floods

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) received more than 160 calls in the 48 hour period from 24 November to 26 November. 80 of these were to flood-related incidents.

Despite heavy rainfall across parts of the region yesterday (Thursday 22 November), it was a fairly quiet evening for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) in terms of flood-related call-outs.

Flooding and Driving Advice for Motorists

With further heavy rain forecast this afternoon and over the weekend, motorists across the region are being urged to take care and exercise caution. Localised flooding has occurred and currently 11 flood alerts are in place by the Environment Agency, which is affecting normal driving routes across West Mercia.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is urging motorists across the two counties to take note of barriers and warning signs placed near flood waters.
