New smoke and carbon monoxide alarm regulations come into force

From 1 October 2015, it will be compulsory for all landlords to fit working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties. Failure to comply with the new law could mean facing a penalty charge of up to £5,000.

Due to concerns, notably around flammability, Conservative Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove and Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP has today instigated a nationwide investigation into the safety of children's fancy dress costumes, an initiative that Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service fully supports.

The event, which was held at Worcester Guildhall, honoured staff for their outstanding service and commitment to the Fire Service.
