Careers

Every single member of our staff helps to make a difference. Whether they are an administrator in one of our district offices, a fire control operator in our control room, an On-Call firefighter at any of our 25 fire stations or a Wholetime firefighter working to one of our various working patterns – they all make a difference.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service recognises that valuing and promoting equality and diversity is central to the effectiveness of our organisation. Our ability to protect the public depends on understanding the diverse communities we serve.

We want our Service to be made up of the same or similar proportions of the people and groups in our area. Currently, women and people from minority ethnic backgrounds remain underrepresented within the fire and rescue service both nationally and locally.

To support the attraction of the widest range of candidates, The Equality Act 2010 allows for the use of ‘positive action’ in a number of specific circumstances. This may include coaching, mentoring and development courses aimed for example, at women and black and ethnic minority colleagues.

Our commitment to attracting applicants from diverse backgrounds extends to all roles – both operational and non-operational posts. For this reason we market our career opportunities using a variety of methods and media.
