Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is again recruiting community volunteers – people with a wide range of life experiences who support our protection and prevention work in local communities.

Following an unavoidable pause in recruitment over the past two years due to the pandemic, we are delighted to be able to resume the programme.

If your vision for 2022 includes giving back to your community with some voluntary work, why not consider being a volunteer with the fire and rescue service?

Our community volunteers are people from all walks of life who want to do extraordinary things – actively supporting their local community as part of an exciting and dynamic organisation, and helping to reduce the risk to the most vulnerable, especially during these difficult times.

With 25 fire stations across the two counties, from the Cotswolds to the mid-Wales border, and call outs to over 6,500 incidents a year – that’s more than 125 a week – the service tackles everything from fires to RTCs to animal rescues, making it an exciting and dynamic organization to be part of.

Caroline Webster, Senior Technician at HWFRS Prevention Department, said:

Volunteers find the experience positive and rewarding. They get involved in a wide variety of activities, including station open days, youth education initiatives, such as Crucial Crew, Young Citizens Challenge and Dying2Drive, and many other community engagement activities to showcase the vital work of HWFRS.

“Their busy programme also takes in supporting our operational crews at training exercises and at fundraising car washes.

“So if you’d like to start the new year with a renewed sense of purpose, this is the ideal moment to consider enrolling with us as a community volunteer and join the men and women from across the two counties who get a sense of satisfaction – and fun – from supporting our prevention work in the community. We have about 20 volunteers in the team at the moment but are always looking for more, so why not join us?

“The opportunity is open to people 18 and over who receive an enhanced DBS check. We provide full training and mentoring, with expenses provided.”
