Request
Hi,
Would it be possible to gain the following information please?
Regarding the services outside/secondary employment policy, does your service allow its uniformed employees, including its protection staff, to undertake fire safety work in a private capacity such as fire risk assessments, fire training and other fire consultancy work outside the boundaries of the service area?
Kind regards,
Response
Hi
We thank you for your request for information, which has been received by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (the Service) and considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.
The Service can confirm that the information that you have requested is held and is as below:
Yes, in certain circumstances uniformed employees are allowed to carry out secondary employment, including fire safety work, outside the boundaries of their Service area. However, staff are required to submit an annual request to the Service to seek approval to undertake Secondary Employment, to ensure that their proposed work is in the interests of the Service. For example, it does not impact on their primary role, meets the requirements of the Working Time Regulations, considers their wellbeing and does not infringe their employment contract, conflict of interests etc. Any work is strictly separate from the Service i.e. the Service’s name should not be associated with secondary employment.
If you have any questions regarding your request, please contact Information Governance and Committee Services on tel: 0345 122 4454 or by e-mail informationrequests@hwfire.org.uk. In any such communication please include the reference number assigned (see Subject).
