The new Broadway Fire Station has been officially opened by Worcestershire’s Lord Lieutenant Beatrice Grant.
The new station replaces the previous one which was built in 1964, but there has been a fire station on the same site since 1898.
“I am certain that in 126 years much has changed in the work of the fire and rescue service, but the ‘service’, ‘commitment’ and ‘community’ ethos by the local firefighters, I am sure, is much the same as it was all those years ago,” said Mrs Grant.
“Having spoken to senior officers I know how important the Service’s property programme is, and their responsibility to environment sustainability, none more so than in this new building which has been designed to be sensitive to local heritage, but provide modern facilities allowing the Service to deliver its core strategies of Prevention, Protection and Response to the local community.”
Mrs Grant was introduced by Chief Fire Officer Jon Pryce who attended along with DCFO Guy Palmer, ACO Anna Davidson, AC Lee Watson, GC Ade Farmer and SC Sam O’Brien, as well as members of the Broadway crew.
Councillors Kit Taylor and Roger Phillips, the chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority, also attended with Cllr Taylor presenting a Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service shield to local councillor and Fire Authority member Cllr Liz Eyre for her tireless work with regard to the Broadway Fire Station.
Local people have a chance to look around the new facility when Broadway Fire Station holds its open day on Saturday.
“Our new fire station looks absolutely fantastic,” said CFO Pryce. “It’s a massive improvement on what we had here before and will last us long into the future.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get this wonderful new facility in place.”
