Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service sent six fire appliances and an Incident Command Unit to a fire in the roof of the music block at Wolverley High School yesterday evening.

Crews from the Wyre Forest Hub were mobilised to the school near Kidderminster at approximately 17:30.

Fire Control operators requested a further two appliances from Kinver in Staffordshire and Stourbridge in the West Midlands to proceed after reports that the fire was rapidly spreading across the roof. They were joined by crews from Bromsgrove and Droitwich, and the Incident Command Unit from Ledbury.

Immediate intervention from firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control and contained damage to a small area of the school.

Group Commander Adrian Farmer said: “The high winds this evening meant that the fire rapidly spread across the roof and into an adjoining building.

“Quick actions and high quality firefighting tactics from the crews and officers on scene contained the fire to a relatively small area and prevented significant damage to the rest of the school.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by specialist fire investigation officers.
