Preparations are hotting up for Worcester Fire Station’s first open day in at least four years on Saturday 16 September.
There will be plenty to entertain all ages from 11am until 4pm with a chance to meet the firefighters while looking around the station and its vehicles.
The displays and demonstrations will include the response to a road traffic collision and a breathing apparatus drill involving a rescue from a smoky building.
Visitors will be able to enjoy fire engine rides and the presence of popular Urban Search and Rescue dog Radar alongside a chance to meet other emergency services and agencies, including the ambulance service and police.
There will be a stall for The Fire Fighters Charity, a prevention tent offering fire safety advice and a recruitment stand promoting Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s need for more on-call firefighters.
Mascots Blaze Bear and Welephant will be entertaining the crowds alongside face painting and refreshments while Worcester singing star Blobbie Williams is set to judge a cake competition.
Watch Commander Roger Roberts said: “It’s a great opportunity for the public to come and visit the station and meet their local fire crews as well as gaining safety advice from all of our partner agencies.”
The station, which has a mix of wholetime and on-call firefighters, moved from Copenhagen Street to Great Western Business Park, McKenzie Way, in 2015.
It boasts three fire engines as well as an aerial ladder platform and a water rescue vehicle which allow crews to deal with a range of fire or rescue-related incidents in both the Worcester area and across the two counties.
A training rig at the station allows for advanced exercises to prepare for potential call-outs.
Entry will be free on Saturday 16 September as is any fire safety advice.
