Budding young firefighters will get to live the dream at Hereford Fire Station’s open day on Saturday 23 September.
Children can look forward to enjoying fire engine rides and testing out their water squirting skills at the St Owen Street station.
There will be plenty to entertain all ages from 10am until 4pm as the station crews hope to repeat the success of last year’s event which attracted several thousand visitors.
Among the demonstrations will be a rescue display using the aerial ladder platform at Hereford that is one of two across Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
West Mercia Police will be represented at the open day while the work of a blood bike, which provides a rapid response medical transport service to the NHS, will be highlighted.
The HWFRS prevention team is set to pass on fire safety advice and there will be a chance to learn more about on-call recruitment.
Watch Commander Rob Purdie said: “It’s a chance for us to meet the community and give them an insight into what we do on a day-to-day basis.
“We can let them know about everything we can offer here, including Home Fire Safety Visits.
“Young budding firefighters will be able to live the life of a firefighter for the day.”
There will be food and refreshments while donations to The Fire Fighters Charity are encouraged.
The station, which has a mix of wholetime and on-call firefighters, boasts three fire engines, including an ultra-heavy rescue appliance, as well as the aerial ladder platform and a water rescue vehicle.
The range of vehicles allows crews to deal with a host of fire or rescue-related incidents in both the Hereford area and across the two counties.
Entry will be free on Saturday 23 September as is any fire safety advice.
