Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is still recruiting community volunteers – people with a whole range of life experiences who support our protection and prevention work in local communities.

If your vision for 2023 includes giving back to your community with some voluntary work, why not consider being a volunteer with the fire and rescue service?

Our community volunteers are ordinary people from all walks of life who want to do extraordinary things – actively supporting their local community as part of an exciting and dynamic organisation, and helping to reduce the risk to the most vulnerable, especially during these difficult times.

Sarah Cuddy, from Malvern, said:

“I decided to become a volunteer for the fire service nearly 3 years ago. I felt I wanted to do voluntary work after I went from full time to part time work and realised I had some spare time that I could put to good use.

“I looked at a few different organisations that needed volunteers and decided on the fire service as it ticked all the boxes for me and is very well respected in our local community.

“It is a great organization to work for, as there are lots of different types of voluntary work you can do from role play that helps the fire service learn their skills to fire safety talks aimed at local groups. I can do the work around my job as there are plenty of different shifts you can choose from and you can be very flexible.

“On a personal note it has helped me with my public speaking skills and also I have gained training that I wouldn’t normally have done. You are made to feel very welcome and part of the team and you are even given a uniform. I look forward to many more years working with the fire service.”

Watch Commander Jim Gough, from the Service’s Prevention Department, said:

“If you want to start the New Year with a renewed sense of purpose, consider joining HWFRS as a community volunteer and be among the many men and women from across our two counties who get huge satisfaction – and fun – from supporting the fire and rescue service’s prevention work in the community.

“If you have always wanted to be part of the Fire Service, this is the time. We look forward to welcoming you and even if you miss the advert deadline, we’d still love to hear from you.”
