“I can honestly say that it is the “people” who are our greatest asset.”
Tell us about your role
As Area Commander for Response, my responsibilities are to ensure that we deliver an emergency response service across our two counties. Response forms the largest part of our Service, with most of our people, assets and finance being directed in this area. It is my responsibility to ensure that our staff are fully prepared and ready to respond to help our communities in their time of need.
I ensure that we strive for excellence in both preparedness during an incident and post-incident organisational learning. Above all else my priority is to ensure that we deploy the right asset as quickly as possible with the most competent and highly skilled staff that we can.
Tell us more about your fire service career
Having joined the Service in 2005 I am approaching my 20-year anniversary which began as a Firefighter in West Midlands Fire Service, transferring to Hereford and Worcester in May 2020 as South District Commander. I have served in several departments and have extensive knowledge of Prevention and Protection.
Having completed 14 years as a nurse in the NHS it is evident that my passion for caring for people in trauma care continues in the role I do today.
What makes HWFRS a great place to work?
I am proud to be part of the forward thinking, learning focused organisation that HWFRS is. Staff are continually developed and readily embrace the positive organisational culture, demonstrating ethical behaviours in an inclusive working environment. As Head of Response I can honestly say that it is the “people” who are our greatest asset and who make HWFRS a truly great place to work.
